If you build for the DoD, some of your drawings are Controlled Unclassified Information, and where they sit is written into your contract rather than left up to you.
Talk to meDrawings stay inside your network
The desktop app and the Office server both run on your own machines, and I never receive your drawings, markups or takeoff. For the drawings you handle, that covers a fair amount of what NIST SP 800-171 is asking about.
It won't make you compliant by itself. Nothing will. Compliance depends on how the whole shop handles the information, and software is one part of that. What I can give you is a straight answer about where the data goes, which is listed connection by connection here.
What Sealed adds
- Every outbound connection switched off, on each seat and on the server
- Locked on by your administrator through Group Policy or a managed preference, and not switchable from inside the program
- Updates arrive as signed files your administrator carries in. Each seat checks the signature against a key built into the program before installing, so a tampered file is refused at every seat
- An audit log of who did what, exportable as CSV
Does this make us compliant? No. Nothing does on its own. What the connections-off claim rests on is reading the code and the tests over it, not a review by anyone outside.

$500 a seat, paid once. Updates are $200 a seat a year and entirely optional — stop renewing and the version you hold keeps working exactly as it did.
A sealed office never fetches its own license, because it never reaches out — that is the edition working as intended. When you’ve paid, the page Square brings you back to hands you the license file, and you carry it to your server. Added users and renewals come the same way.
Sealed is the same download as Office. The Sealed license is what locks it: every outward connection off, on the server and on every computer that signs in to it. Your IT department can also seal each computer through Group Policy before it ever connects, with the policy templates. Download it here. A company holds an Office license or a Sealed one, not both. If you are not sure which you need, the pricing page sets them side by side.
